Own your content – benefits of a blog

Did you ever experience that you had some questions in any kind of community and forum and you got very helpful answers? And then after some years you might face the same question again but have forgotten the solution. So you are searching your favorites and the web for this content but can’t find it. I’m sure nearly anybody of us experienced something similar.

That’s one of the reasons I started this blog. I would like to own my content and my learnings. Of course, I’m also using the web and communities to post questions and find answers but then I will get this somehow out as a blog post or idea so I always can refer to this in the future.

My reasons for a blog

I like to keep track of things I tried, learned, and experienced during my life. I used various methods already but often I struggled to consistently add new content to those, either it was too complicated or it was not easy to find content I added. Therefore I started this blog because blogging is kind of simple and you can share your posts with others, so it is a win-win situation.

Other benefits of blogging:

  • Attract an audience: Find people that have similar questions, help them, build a network
  • Become an expert: Through sharing your experiences and learnings publicly you will grow as an export in that area
  • Tell your story: You are different, so are your experiences and words. Some might like your wording better than others so your story is important.
  • Get into the habit of writing: Writing down things will help to remember and increase your vocabulary as well.
  • Digital Playground: Use the blog as a place to share case studies, trial and error codings, and much more
  • Collect ideas: A blog can also be used to collect ideas, research on them if you have the time and motivation and write a post about your findings
