how to start learning servicenow

ServiceNow is one of the fastest innovator for “digitalization/workflow/new normal”. They offer a wide area of workflows and apps all within one platform. One basic platform, additional modules for a lot of areas like IT Service Management, Customer Service Management, HR, Legal, IT Operations, Security and much more.

Due to my current job I got pushed into the direction to implement ServiceNow, from an architectural perspective down to the administrator/developer level. And to be honest when I started I had no idea what I’m doing and still after a couple of weeks I’m just scratching the surface.

But… it is a great opportunity to learn something new. Get out of my current comfort zone and jump straight into a big platform, learn new administration skills, learn Javascript development and be engaged as process and platform architect.

New tool, a lot to learn

Like with all new tools you have to learn everything from the beginning. If you already have a background adminitrating such workflow tools and if you can think in processes and workflows it will be easier to learn, but you can also start from scratch.

ServiceNow is such a big solution that you can start wherever you want. You can start with the classic applications like the Now Platform and the ITSM modules or jump directly into new application development for your custom purpose, maybe a cooking recipes app for your familiy?

NowLearning and your own Developer Instance

ServiceNow offers a lot of knowledge for free. They offer you as well the option to get a complete ServiceNow instance for free. It is a so called “developer instance” where you can explore the whole platform and don’t have to pay anything.

You can start with a fresh installation on the latest release, play around with all modules they have on their platform and through that you can try, learn and grow your knowledge.

That’s how I started as well my ServiceNow learning journey. Get a developer login and request your own developer instance.
